Letter from the Director

Dear Students,

On behalf of the Greek Life Office and Greek community I’d like to welcome you to Truman State University! You are about to embark on a journey of education and life-changing experiences and we are honored to share our community and time with you.

Over the course of your time at Truman you will have opportunities to become involved in a variety of student organizations and interest communities. We are especially excited to offer the chance to be involved in a fraternity or sorority. Each of our three councils (IFC, Panhellenic, and NPHC) provide the opportunity for students to participate in a formal recruitment/intake process. This is a time for students to meet the members of the different groups on campus and learn more about the values, goals and history of each chapter. As a potential new member you will be meeting a lot of people and making a lot of new friendships that will last throughout your time at the university regardless of which group you join.

While each sorority and fraternity has its unique philanthropies and traditions, they all strive for excellence and value scholarship, leadership, integrity and commitment. By going Greek at Truman you will find yourself in an environment of scholars, leaders, athletes, philanthropists and great people who are committed to the growth and potential of each and every member of their organization.

As an incoming freshman years ago, I had some doubts about going Greek. I had heard too many negative stories and what I had seen in the media was not always positive. What I found upon joining was a family away from home, a support network, a collection of friends, and a sense of integrity that made my college experience a better one. The experience ended up being one of the most memorable ones of my life and has given me the leadership skills, communication skills and commitment to be successful.

Please take some time to read our website and ask questions. If members of your family have questions you can also refer them to the Parents’ Page. We can’t wait to meet you! Go Bulldogs! Go GREEK!

Sincerely,

Beth Tuttle Director of Greek Affairs
